The following mail has been received from Australia:
Hi all,
Last Sunday a group of us performed end tests on a selection of masts - (too much spare time?)
We tested 8 masts:
The masts were supported at the heel and at the top black band with 15 kg weight attached at spreader height.
Measurements were taken at 1 metre intervals beginning from the tip as well as a measurement at the spreaders.
We tested both fore and aft bend as well as sideways bend (both port and starboard - and yes there is a difference!)
The results are attached.
It was an interesting exercise with a few surprising results. It will be good to build up a database of mast types.
Thanks to Ben, Nathan, John, & Brett (I didn't do much) and especially Jack Fletcher for compiling all the results.
Robin.
