20/07/2015 07:53:21 Chris Turner Posts: 0 | After 50 years, Chichester Harbour Federation Week, fondly known as 'Fed Week', has been re-named Chichester Harbour Race Week. I suspect it will still be referred to as Fed Week for many years to come but what hasn't changed is the popularity of the event as c.300 boats descend upon Hayling Island SC for 5 days of racing (1 race per day) in Chichester Harbour and a full round of evening social events. This year Race Week clashes directly with the Fireball Nationals but there will still be a good Fireball turnout as most of the HISC boats will be attending Race Week before travelling up to Pwllheli for the Worlds. As further evidence of the resurgence in interest in the Fireball class in Chichester Harbour, the Race Week organisers have agreed the class may break out of the Medium Handicap classification if entry numbers warrant. If 6 Fireballs enter, we will start with the RS400s and have our results stripped out at the end of the week and separate class prizes awarded. Better still, 9 Fireball entries will earn a full class start. The good news is that within hours we knew we would have enough entries to start with the RS400s. Now we are looking to achieve the distinction of a class start. It's been very many years since Fireballs had their own start so it will be fantastic to get it back! If you are thinking of attending Race Week, please may I ask that you enter early so we may secure that sought-after separate start? The organisers would really like to avoid last minute changes to printed matter. If we can help them to help us so much the better! Finally, the 2016 edition of Race Week will fall immediately after the conclusion of the 4-day Nationals being hosted by HISC. A separate Fireball start in this year's Race Week should ensure similar treatment in 2016 when I expect entries will be buoyed by Nationals competitors staying on with families in a more relaxed sailing environment.
