News / Pick Everard Construction Industry Regatta

Rutland once again were impeccable hosts for the annual Pick Everard sponsored Construction Regatta held on the 27th June. Two back to back races were held in the morning in a pleasant, though quite soggy force 2. The fleet were well behaved after the first general recall with Matt Jenkins of Arup getting off to a strong start with 2 bullets in an RS300.

During the break, a spokesperson for the nominated charity – Rutland Sailability, gave a fascinating and inspiring insight into the work of the disabled sailing centre at Rutland. Ex-NCE editor Anthony Oliver also gave an entertaining speech. Once the thunderstorm had eventually passed, the cooks made sure that the pig was dead and served a delicious hog roast.

The wind swung 180 degrees and the sun came out for a pleasant and very shifty afternoon race. The fireball of Newton and Stephens (Stent Housing) took up the running and led from start to finish. Also having a good race was the Wayfarer of Playle and Smith (Marshalls A) posting a solid second.

Jenkins took the overall win for the 2nd year running with Newton and Stephens in 2nd from Roberts in a Phantom (Lamberts/Morton) in third. Best overall team prize was awarded to Stent Housing. Special thanks to Pick Everard for their continued sponsorship of this great event, especially Jonathan Adams who unfortunately could not make this years event due to work commitments after organising it so successfully.
