Fireball Grand Nationals 2013

Day 4

Day 4 dawned with little wind and some summer sunshine. An early postponement was inevitable and was followed by 2 more until the decision was made to call it a day due to lack of wind.

With 3 races planned for tomorrow the fleet spent the day bimbling with boats, enjoying the charms of Looe and preparing for some evening fun at the club and on the beach.

The consensus amongst the sailors is that this has been a great event so far. The conditions have been excellent until today, the social has been fun and the club super friendly.

Despite the lack of sailing today, the fleets spirits were buoyant. There were beach games this afternoon with a good turnout for barefoot football, badminton, frisbee and water pistol fights. With pasties back at the club tonight, the daily feckwit award and a disco, the evening will set the teams up for a good final day with a possible 4 races and an early start planned.

There are more opportunities for the fleet to come together again soon. The next Golden Dolphin event is at Sailfest Weymouth over the August bank holiday weekend. with entry closing on the 12th of August, you better be quick if you would like to compete.

There is also another training event coming up in September. Following the success of Mark Rushalls tactical masterclass back in April, Adam Bowers will be delivering a Sea Sailing Clinic at Castle Cove in Weymouth. The event was well attended last year when held at Shoreham and places are still available for this year at only £80 per boat for the weekend.

With the Golden dolphin series, class organised training, an end of season black tie dinner and open meeting, a World and European championships in Slovenia in September, European Championships in Shetland next year and a UK world championships coming up in the UK in 2015, the Fireball class is in rude health. When are you getting one?
