News / Staunton Harold Open this weekend

It's virtually high water at Staunton Harold and the 50th year of the Fireball will kick off in sprint style this weekend.

The first Golden Dolphin event of the 2012 season has 10 races, yes 10 races like the Nationals will have, in the space of just over 24 hours! It promises to be exciting and fun and a great way to meet your Fireball friends as they emerge from hibernation this spring.

First start on Saturday is at 12.30pm. There will be a briefing at about 11.45am, shortly after Staunton Harold SC has been presented with a massive cheque for £50,000 from Sport England.

The entry fee is a very modest £15 for both days (that's £1.50 a race).

Bacon and egg butties will be available both Saturday and Sunday from around 9.15am.

On Saturday night there will be the legendary 'Staunton meal'. This year it's a Tex Mex theme (with a non-spicy option available too). At £8.50 for a three course meal, you can't go far wrong. It's all cooked and provided on site at the sailing club too.

First start on Sunday is at 10.30am BST (I think that's enough of a hint - if not you will have to attend the social event on Saturday night to be let in on the secret).

Special 50th year prizes are being sorted as I write, all to do with the number 50...

If there is anyone still looking for a crew or accommodation, please contact me by email Becky Priest and I'll do my best to sort something for you by the weekend.

See you on Saturday.
