The annual UKFA Training weekend saw hot and sunny weather. This brought with it light winds which allowed the sailors present to really work on their roll tacks and start line positioning, with a range of on the water exercises. Coach Mark Rushall ran an excellent weekend. Mark's enthusiasm for the Fireball was evident as he spent the afternoon jumping from boat to boat to provide extra tips. Countless starts were practised along with lots of on the whistle trigger pulls. The day ended on the water with a couple of short races and an extensive debrief followed before dinner.
On Sunday a series short windward leeward courses were set up to allow plenty of practice at 'pulling the trigger'. The wind was again better than forecast and marginal trapezing developed. Mark introduced a 'windward mark mayhem' exercise designed to practice close quarter boat handling and observance of rule 18.3 which had been poor the previous day. The weekend closed with a final debrief. Key lesson of the weekend; Always attach the float to your video camera otherwise it sinks to the bottom when you drop it over the side!
