Why join the UK Fireball Association?

The Fireball is known throughout the dinghy world as a class that enjoys great competition aswell as a  fantastic and friendly social life. The class association is there to further the interests of the Fireball class. Each year the class association;

• Organises National and Inland Championships.
• Co ordinates Fireball open meetings.
• Runs class training weekends and other training events.
• Keeps older boats competing by encouraging classic boats.
• Produces this website which includes members only information.
• Sends out regular email bulletins.
• Publishes Fireball News.
• It encourages class development at a sensible pace. We work closely with Fireball International on the Class Rules which are the heart of any one-design class. Without these the racing would not be fair.
• Works to maintain residual boat values by maintaining a classified section on this website.

The UKFA Committees work in more detail:

• The committee of United Kingdom Fireball Association manages the classes affairs. A full list of committee members can be found here.
• UKFA committee members are voted in at the AGM which takes place one evening at the National Championships each year, although class members can be co -opted at any time during the year. 
• The Fireball is an International Class. The Class Rules are maintained by Fireball International. We are also governed by the rules of ISAF. 
• The committee meets about 8 times each year often at open meetings or by telephone conference. During the winter a longer strategy day is often held.
• The committee works hard to promote of the class to the public and maintain the profile of the class in the sailing media.
• Keeping members informed about the association’s activities
• Organising and and running the class stand at the RYA Dinghy Show.
• Proposing changes to the class rules to Fireball International that it feels will benefit the current members and help to secure the future of the class. For example, the introduction of laminate sail cloths.
• Association income is primarily from subscriptions, but is enhanced by revenue from sales of clothing, advertising in class publications and on this website and by sponsorship for Championships. 
• The Associations aim is to break even each year, but by sound financial management there is a currently a healthy level of funds.
