Fireballs at Rock - Preview

Rock Sailing Club on the North Cornwall coast provides the venue for the late May bank holiday weekend for the Fireball Class. This 3 day event will provide a mini championship format with a good mix of on the water action and off the water socials. For some this will be there first open of the season, for others there first open ever. Some will be using it as a warm up for the World Championships in June in Ireland, for others it will be the big event of their season. This event is also the 3rd in the Golden Dolphin Series and in addition also counts towards the south west series.
On the water the plan is to race in the Camel Estuary on Saturday afternoon just a few minutes sail from the club. Sunday will see racing in Padstow Bay along with a long distance race around a couple of nearby Islands (Conditions permitting) Monday will again see racing in Padstow Bay with a shorter sprint format planned.
Rock is home to the legendary Sharps Brewery and there is nothing to beat a pint or two of the award winning Doom Bar served at the Sailing Club. Evening socials planned are a bring your own BBQ and Pimm's Party on Saturday (Sausages, burgers and rolls included in the entry, chips etc will be available to buy from the club galley) and a sit down meal on the Sunday evening after which a visit to some local pubs.
In the surrounding area you have a fantastic surfing and body boarding beach at Polzeath, excellent sandy beaches on the Camel Estuary, cycling on the Camel Trail and many other attractions a short journey away. In addition the popular seaside town of Padstow is a short hop on the ferry away.
