Final details of how to book a space for your boat in the UK container for the 2010 World Championships in Barbados will be available soon.

In the interim please could people post their initial interest in a container space here. This is so that we know how many containers might be needed.

Standby Fireball Sailors there is some exciting and helpful news coming forward as a result of Andrew Davies's meeting today with Geest.

From reports reaching me today are that the rate to Barbados for your boats is at an almost giveaway figure of Stl 160.00 per boat return Portsmouth or Le Harve inclusive of all Port Charges at Le Harve and Portsmouth.

With these super rates available for shipments from Europe, The UK and Ireland to Barbados and back home along with a total waiver on all Port charges on arrival in Bridgetown and the same on the outbound journey.

This rate should assist you in getting to Barbados for this event, it is not to be missed.

That £160 sounds like a fantastic rate! Big thanks to Andrew & all involved in the negotiations with Geest & the ports.

As a newbie to international regatta travel, what other costs will be incurred (e.g. Port to venue & venue to port, insurance, any port costs in UK)?

Just trying to get a handle on the total...

Deposits for container spaces are now being received by our Treasurer, Wendy Wood. To date, we have filled two containers and we're well on the way to filling a third container. The last few spaces will be allocated (when £200 deposit cheques are received) on a first-come, first-served basis.

Going forward, please don't use this forum to express your interest but rather contact Wendy, Dave Wade or myself directly.

Thanks to the efforts of Andrew Davies (and mentioned earlier in this thread) we will benefit from fantastic shipping rates courtesy of Geest. There will be additional expense items such as insurance, container framing and possibly some UK haulage costs but we expect the final cost per boat to come in under £300.

A final account will be calculated upon return and apportioned evenly between all boats in all UKFA containers. The balance will be collected at an appropriate date.

Best wishes,

Phil

Phil,

I must compliment Andrew and all of you for doing such a fine job with this program of The Fireball Worlds Barbados 2010.

We are looking forward to welcoming each and everyone of you from the UK and around the world, it is our pleasure to have you visit with and enjoy what our island has to offer, not only in sailing but its wide and varied menus at all of our wonderful restaurants and of course our offerings of the finest and oldest rum in the World Mount Gay Rum.

We also would like you to know that we are striving to see a very, very large entry for this event and would be pleased if the UK alone were sending five or six containers so please help us to make this a fantastic two weeks in the sun in Barbados by entering in your numbers, we will make it worth your while.

Accomodation wise The Grand Barbados which overlooks the course and right next door to the host venue has provided your association with some fantastic rates for those wanting to stay there and I suggest you consider this as an option for your stay with us in Barbados.

We have also reserved one evening for a cocktail party to be held at the home of the Prime Minister of the island and he has expressed his happiness that this event is taking place in Barbados and to this end has made his home available for this evening.

Regards and we look forward to your arrival in Barbados for THE FIREBALL BARBADOS WORLDS 2010.

Vyv,

Details are not yet confirmed but we expect to load at Portsmouth at the beginning of April, perhaps over the Easter weekend. I've sent this information to Chips. I'll get your e-mail address from your message post and I'll cc. you on any other circulars. If you or Chips haven't already sent your deposit please forward it asap to Wendy.

Cheers

Rhys,

Good to hear that you're going - and with explicit permission from senior management, too!

You can contact Wendy via the comittee page on this site.

Better get in quick, the 3rd container is nearly full!

Nick, How does it look for a fourth container for Barbados?

We will only be to happy to accommodate everyone here and also with the discount offered by Geest and the room rates offered locally there is every reason to try to make this event in Barbados.

Please also try not to cut the shipping date to tight and give yourself some extra room for these containers arrival in Barbados and getting them cleared and moved from the Port to the venue as hiccups can occur.
